CARE Support
Bates Technical College takes a CARE (Campus Assessment, Response, and Empowerment) approach to promote student success by facilitating referrals, support, and advocacy through nonclinical interventions. We provide follow-up services in collaboration with other college departments or individuals, community agencies, parents or guardians, and stakeholders to enhance students’ success.
CARE supports students who may be struggling academically and/or with personal concerns and would benefit from college and community referrals.
We are bound by FERPA and with the exception of a crisis situation, we share information about student concerns only on a need-to-know basis.
How to Report
In the event of an emergency (immediate risk of harm to self or others) call 911 and Campus Public Safety at 253.680.7111.
For non-emergent situations click here to submit a CARE form.
General Information
CARE staff include various student support roles at Bates and can include, but are not limited to Student Retention, Counseling, Disability Resources, etc. Once a form is received staff contact a student to check-in, provide support, resources, and/or to make a referral. Based upon the information provided, staff will plan and implement intervention strategies to assist students who may need support or at risk of not achieving their educational goals.
Bates staff, faculty and students are encouraged to submit a form if they have concerns for a student’s well-being, academic success (low test performance, missing multiple assignments, missing multiple classes, etc.), or if they encounter a student who may need additional support or referrals (housing insecurity, grief, long-term illness, etc.).
Separate forms must be submitted for each student.
