Like many colleges around the country, Bates Technical College has transitioned to remote learning. The advantage of having this in place is that we will continue to hold classes during times of inclement weather, regardless of the cancelation of on-campus activities.
With the anticipated arrival of inclement weather, Bates Technical College will take the position that remote instruction will continue as usual and on-campus learning scheduled will adapt to remote for the day*.
Not sure if school is in session because of poor weather? The college will make a decision about changes to on-campus activities, delaying or canceling classes based on weather forecasts, campus conditions and the conditions of the roads around our campuses.
*What does this mean?
If the college announces “On-campus activities are canceled,” students will not be attending on-campus labs, classes or services. Students need to check with their instructors, via their preferred method, to obtain information about the online learning opportunity that will replace the on-campus learning for the day. Unless otherwise notified by your instructor, it is expected that you will attend online at the same time you normally would on-campus.
Once a decision has been made, the college community will be notified as quickly as possible, likely before 5:30 a.m.
Safety is important during inclement weather conditions. If employees or students determine that it is not safe for them to travel while the college is open, please notify your instructor or supervisor as soon as feasible to make arrangements and/or for proper approvals.
Students and employees may access the most up-to-date weather information on delayed starts, campus closures or early dismissals in the following manners:
- Phone, 253.680.7060
The most reliable source of information, the Weather Information Hotline (253.680.7060) is the first source that is updated any time a closure or delay happens. Whenever possible, the weather hotline is updated by 5:30 a.m. with current information and by 4 p.m. for evening classes.
- Rave Emergency Alert System, www.getrave.com/login/batestechcollege
Rave Alert is Bates Technical College’s official emergency notification system used to communicate with students and employees during events that affect college operations, including campus emergencies and inclement weather.
Students and staff with Bates-issued email addresses are automatically enrolled. Log in to sign up for text messages sent to your mobile phone.
