Job Summary

Assistant will provide basic tutoring help to students with college assignments.  Primarily they will help with general education coursework such as math and writing basics, resume help, general study skills, or basic computer skills, but may help with other topics as directed by library staff.

Essential Functions
  • Assist students one-on-one and in small groups with assignments and studying
  • Follow a weekly tutor schedule
  • Utilize training as directed to increase tutoring effectiveness
  • Help students find and use study resources and online tutoring
  • Help students use computers and software needed for assignments (such as navigating Canvas, using Word, and saving files)
  • Create helpful documents for common questions
  • Track time and use of service
  • Respond to messages
  • Other duties as assigned
Statement of Educational Benefits

Assistants will acquire customer service, organizational, and solidify their own general education skills while helping others improve theirs.  Students will be trained in FERPA regulations (privacy), basic technology, and routing of patrons to appropriate resources and personnel as needed.

 

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, GED, or approved equivalency
  • Successful completion of 90-level math or above, or assessment scores at the 90-level math or above, or instructors’ endorsement for service as peer- tutor.
  • Basic familiarity with computers and MS Office
