Job Summary

Early Childhood Work Study Office Assistant provides support to the EC Manager, Food Program Coordinator, or Family Support Specialist by processing paperwork and disseminating information. 

Essential Functions
  • Organizing files 
  • Typing memos or making corrections to edited documents.   
  • Inventory supplies and create order lists 
  • Delivering facsimiles and sending them and doing related search projects. 
  • Maintain confidentiality. 
Statement of Educational Benefits

The work study student will practice office skills to gather evidence of program standards. The participant will learn strategies to meet conflicting and overlapping deadlines in the support of the management team of the Early Childhood programs.  The center depends on prompt, reliable attendance and alert mental attitude; therefore, work study student will demonstrate strong workplace behaviors. The centers work under the standards monitored by Washington Early Childhood Education Assistance Program (ECEAP), Washington Department of Children Youth and Families (DCYF), Federal Early Head Start Region 10(EHS), and Federal Child Adult Food Program (CACFP). We believe in the Code of Ethical Conduct statement published by the National Association of the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). 

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Completion, DED or enrolled in completing HS. 
  • 18 years of age

Special Conditions   

  • Create a Department of Children Youth and Families MERIT account, containing educational qualifications  
  • Must have a current Portable Background Check in MERIT – according to WAC 170-06  
  • Have negative results of TB test/or a recent negative chest x-ray and statement from health provider  
  • Submit proof of MMR immunization    
  • Complete Early Learning on-line trainings: which include Blood borne Pathogens; Child Abuse and Neglect, Emergency Preparedness, Active Supervision, Safe Sleep, Standards of Conduct 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Technical skills: computer skills to complete web-based training; copy, print, scan and fax; 
  • Interpersonal skills: our primary responsibility to colleagues is to establish and maintain settings and relationships that support productive work and meet professional needs  
  • Safety: OSHA regulations and OSHA and Bates accident reporting requirements 
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance on the job:  To ensure adequate staffing, positive employee morale, and to meet expected standards throughout the program, employees will be held accountable for adhering to their workplace schedule.  
  • Must exercise good judgment for the prompt completion of responsibilities.
