Early Childhood Work Study provides support to the EC Specialist 3 and 4 by implementing daily classroom activities for preschool children.
- Maintain a safe and healthy environment for children to engage with materials and peers.
- Interacts positively with all children to support their individual learning and meets their emotional needs; ready and willing to intercede quickly to keep children safe and model appropriate interactions.
- Checks indoor and outdoor environment for safety hazards; and understands the emergency preparedness procedures.
- Participates and facilitates mealtime service and joins children at the table for support and conversation.
- Maintains confidentiality.

The work study student will practice skills to guide young children’s behavior and to understand widely held expectation for children’s growth and development. The participant is a role model to young children of position social interactions. Learn healthy food service to ensure young children receive the nutrition needed for a healthy mind and body. Early childhood programs require prompt, reliable attendance and alert mental attitude; therefore, work study student will demonstrate strong work place behaviors. The centers work under the standards monitored by Washington Early Childhood Education Assistance Program (ECEAP), Washington Department of Children Youth and Families (DCYF), Federal Early Head Start Region 10(EHS), and Federal Child Adult Food Program (CACFP). We believe in the Code of Ethical Conduct statement published by the National Association of the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
- High School Completion, DED or enrolled in completing HS.
- 18 years of age
- Create a Department of Children Youth and Families MERIT account, containing educational qualifications
- Must have a current Portable Background Check in MERIT – according to WAC 170-06
- Have negative results of TB test/or a recent negative chest x-ray and statement from health provider
- Submit proof of MMR immunization
- Maintain food handler card
- Maintain first aid/CPR
- Attend Limited Restraint training within the first year
- Complete Early Learning on-line trainings: which include Blood borne Pathogens; Child Abuse and Neglect, Emergency Preparedness, Active Supervision, Safe Sleep, Standards of Conduct

- Ability to read out loud
- Technical skills: computer skills to complete web-based training; copy, print, scan and fax;

- Safety: OSHA regulations and OSHA and Bates accident reporting requirements
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance on the job: To ensure adequate staffing, positive employee morale, and to meet expected standards throughout the program, employees will be held accountable for adhering to their workplace schedule.
- Must exercise good judgment for the prompt completion of responsibilities. Ability to observe danger, alert children and physically remove them from dangerous situations.
