Job Summary

Lab assistants are responsible for monitoring students’ use of computer labs. Knowledge of Bates’ procedures and a commitment to customer service is expected. 

Essential Functions
  • Monitor open computer labs as assigned 
  • Maintain a clean and safe learning/study environment within the labs 
  • Communicate computer related information to persons who have little or no computer knowledge or experience

Minimum Qualifications
  • Effective communication and quality customer service skills 
  • Basic computer skills – keyboarding and fundamental software/hardware knowledge 
  • Possess self-motivational skills with the ability to work independently with supervision as well as in team situations 
  • Basic Microsoft Office Suite skills 
  • Basic Windows Operating System knowledge 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Lab Monitor must be familiar with all of the computing and printing equipment in the computer lab. The monitor should be reliable in order to meet the work schedule and accountable for all activities that transpire during their shift. The monitor should possess customer service skills and empathy for the needs and problems users encounter. The monitor should be a problem solver who is capable of following IT procedures and policies. The monitor must be a confident self-starter who desires to improve the support structure of the computer lab.
