Program Effectiveness Review

Program Effectiveness Review (PER) is a systematic way to assess the quality of instructional programs and determine ways to improve the quality of education, scholarship and service. The purpose of program review is threefold:

  1. To assure that the faculty and administration provide high-quality career training and academic programs for students.
  2. To identify opportunities for improvement in each program.
  3. To determine the strengths and challenges of the existing program and to set strategies and plans of continuous improvement in order to provide future learners with more competitive skills, viable knowledge and quality education.

All these will ensure the college is meeting business and industry needs by supplying a trained workforce.

Program Effectiveness Review Process

Per Article 8.21 of the Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement, all instructional programs will be reviewed over a three-year cycle. A calendar of programs scheduled for review is posted below and on the college’s intranet page.

Quarter One:

During the first quarter of review, program faculty will work collaboratively with their instructional dean and program advisory committee to complete the Program Effectiveness Report. The Institutional Research Office, Curriculum and Assessment Coordinator, Curriculum and Assessment Committees, Online Learning Center, and other groups will provide additional support. The report is due to the Office of Instruction by the last day of the quarter.

Quarter Two:

During the second quarter of review, the program faculty members and instructional dean will present their findings in a joint meeting with members of the Assessment Task Force/Committee, Vice President of Instruction, and college leadership (as necessary). Collective feedback will be shared with the program faculty and dean with recommendations on program improvements and next steps. The results of the PER will also be shared at the following program’s advisory committee meeting.
