Students, staff celebrate end of year with festivities

Posted: May 29, 2015

Before celebrating with the Class of 2015 at the Commencement ceremony the evening of Thursday, May 28, staff and faculty gathered for end-of-year festivities in the Downtown Campus Auditorium.

The event opened with a video of South Campus assistant career advisor Treonna Lee belting out Uptown Bates, a parody of Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson, featuring Bruno Mars. The audience laughed out loud at the lyrics, written by in-house talent, coupled with students and staff dancing to the music.

In addition to the parody video, highlights of the event include speeches dedicated to the retirees, a mock newscast on the Bates News Network (BNN), anchored by dean Brandon Rogers and executive dean Lin Zhou, and college mascot Brutus the Bobcat’s dance party.

That evening, proud faculty, staff, family and friends joined excited graduates at the Tacoma Dome for the college’s commencement ceremony.

Who’s ready for next year’s celebration?
