Students pass key certification exams

Faculty in the Information Technology Specialist, Electronic and Communications Systems Technology, and Computer Networking Systems Technician programs proudly announced that their students earned key industry certifications this month.
Instructor Laura Robertson reported that all 18 students enrolled in a variety of advanced technology programs, including Electronic and Communications Systems Technology, Computer Networking Systems Technician, and IT Specialist, received certification through the Fiber Optic Association as Certified Fiber Optic Technicians.
“It was hard work on everyone’s part, and well worth the effort,” said Robertson.
Students in the electronics and communications program learn to install, repair, test and maintain a wide variety of equipment, including radio and mobile communications, avionics, marine electronics, cellular and satellite and other associated electronic equipment systems. The program is approximately six quarters long, and awards an Associate in Applied Science and two certificates. Learn more about the program.
Computer networking students learn to link the hardware and software that make up computer data communications networks. They learn to install, configure and maintain network components, work on client stations, servers, domain controllers, shared printers, cables and routers. “Four Information Technology Specialist students this quarter successfully passed the two exams required to become CompTIA Certified A+ Technicians,” said instructor Emmett Peterson. “The CompTIA A+ Certification Exam is considered the industry standard in terms of measuring a technicians hardware and software knowledge. Students possessing the certification are more likely to receive higher salaries, and 85 percent of these individuals choose to further their careers,” said Peterson.
IT specialist students prepare for careers that focus on PC and network support, with an emphasis on both practical experience and certification preparation, including LAN/WAN administrator and network system support specialist.
