South Campus  Food Service Starts January 7

Culinary Arts confirms food service will commence on Wednesday January 7th 2015 11 am to 1230 pm. The menu will alternate giving the campus a chance to have a variety of items such as grab and go lunch or a BBQ for the day. Pricing listed below:

  • Hamburger, Chips and Soda or water 6.50
  • Hot dog , Chips and Soda or water 5.50
  • Selection of Sandwiches on a Hoagie Roll that include Chips and Soda/Water Roast Beef – 6.25 Turkey –  6.00 Ham – 6.00

The Culinary Arts program is pushing to have the food truck and trailer fully functional as soon as possible. Look for updates in your weekly Student eNews.

Students of Color Conference 2015 – Applications Available Now!

The 2015 Students of Color Conference (SOCC) is conference is Thursday through Saturday) April 23-25, 2015, in Yakima, Washington.  The goal of the conference is to provide a fun, educational experience that promotes leadership, diversity, and academic success.  This year, the application process will completed electronically.  Email LeMont Lucas for the two conference application files. The deadline to apply is January 30, 2015.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Events – Both are Free and Open to the Public!

The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration is Tuesday, January 13, 11:30am to 1:00pm in the South Campus auditorium.  This year’s presentation comes to you from “Living Voices”, a performer who will provide a recreation of the “Coming of age “of African Americans during the 1950’s and 1960’s.  It will illuminate the issues of civil rights at that time, leading audiences to understand how the fight against prejudice has shaped our history. The Community March for MLK is Monday, January 19.  Morning refreshments start in the cafeteria at 8:00am; the march begins at 9:00am and ends at the Greater Tacoma Convention Center in time for the community event.  Contact the Diversity Center if you will be joining us! PASSPORT EVENT!

ASG Club – Warm Winter Clothing Drive

The Bates Student Occupational Therapy Assistants Club is hosting a winter clothing drive Monday December 15th – Friday, January 23rd. Students and college staff are encouraged to bring in new or gently used warm winter clothing, such as jackets, boots, scarves, and gloves for donation. Donation boxes will be located at Downtown (in front of Library and in Skybridge), South (Main Office area and E Building main floor), and Central (TBD) campuses. Monetary donations will also be collected in the Downtown Campus Cafeteria 12:00-12:30 on Tuesdays. Donations will benefit the Tacoma Rescue Mission.

CultureGrams is just one of the databases you can access online through the Bates Library.  This resource includes short, reliable reports on over 180 cultures from around the world… including details about what holidays they celebrate.  A brief search just now discovered that, in Russia, the final day of Maslenitsa is celebrated by burning an effigy of winter to symbolize sending the cold season away until next year.  +

American Indian Endowed Scholarships

This event is intended for the ENTIRE family.
