Salute to Sacrifice: Bates' Veterans Day celebration features JBLM command sergeant major

With Joint Base Lewis-McChord nearby, the Tacoma-Pierce County area is often called a military community. But, what is it like to be a service member or veteran in today’s society?

Keynote speaker Command Sergeant Major Roy L. Rocco from JBLM will speak at the college’s annual Veterans Day Celebration about the experience of today’s service member, both positive aspects and challenges they encounter.

About the speaker

Command Sergeant Major Roy L. Rocco began his Army career in 1987. He has held a variety of logistics and leadership positions from supply clerk/squad leader through Command Sergeant Major, where he currently serves in the 593D Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. Included in his long list of awards and decorations are the Bronze Star (2 OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (5 OLC), and Army Commendations Medal (4 OLC).
