Graduates are prepared with knowledge, problem-solving ability and hands-on skills to enter careers in the design, installation, manufacturing, testing, technical sales, maintenance, and other endeavors typically associated with mechanical components and systems. This program emphasizes how things actually work, how they are made, and the realization that most mechanical components and assemblies become parts of complex systems, an important consideration realized at the beginning of the design process.

Engineering Program Mission Statement

At Bates Technical college, our Engineering Technology Program provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in the fields of engineering. Through a rigorous curriculum that emphasizes hands-on experience and real-world applications, we strive to produce graduates who are capable of designing, analyzing, and improving mechanical systems and processes. Our program prepares students for careers in a variety of industries, including manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, and energy. We are committed to providing an inclusive learning environment that fosters creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork, and to maintaining strong ties with industry partners to ensure that our graduates are well-equipped to meet the demands of the rapidly evolving fields of engineering technology.

Program Educational Objectives:
Program educational objectives are broad statements that are used to describe career and professional accomplishments that the Engineering Technology programs are preparing graduates to achieve during the first 2-4 years of graduation. The objectives are broad but imply employment in the area served by Bates Technical College, as an engineering technician or technologist at the two-year associate degree level. This is consistent with the mission of the college.

Within two to four years after graduation, students of the program will be able to do these:

  • Demonstrate an ability to function on multi-disciplinary teams in an engineering-focused environment.
  • Demonstrate an ability to communicate clearly and effectively in a diverse and technical environment.
  • Demonstrate an ability to manage time effectively working on engineering projects.
  • An ability to conduct standard tests, measurements, and experiments and to analyze and interpret the results.
  • Demonstrate an ability to systematically make decisions as a member of an engineering team.

Program Outcomes

  1. An ability to apply knowledge, techniques, skills and modern tools of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to solve well-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline
  2. An ability to design solutions for well-defined technical problems and assist with the engineering design of systems, components, or processes appropriate to the discipline
  3. An ability to apply written, oral, and graphical communication in well-defined technical and non-technical environments; and an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature
