This six-hour course meets Labor and Industry specifications and the licensing requirements of the Department of Social and Health Services.

CPR is offered from 8-11 a.m., and First Aid is offered from 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. First Aid only (Item# 7521) is $45 and CPR only (Item# 7520) is $45 select from dates below. Please contact 253.680.7402 to register.

LPN Self-Study Refresher, PNRS 121

This class is for LPNs who hold an inactive or lapsed LPN license for three or more years, and who must complete an approved refresher program before receiving an active LPN license for the state. Students with an inactive or lapsed license must provide a limited educational license prior to beginning any clinical work. Tuition Refund Policy (for this course only)
A student who has paid tuition before the quarter starts but is unable to attend the class may receive a full tuition refund. After the first day of class, Bates grants refunds as follows:

  • From the 1st to the 5th calendar day – 80%
  • From the 6th day to the 15th calendar day – 40%
  • After the 15th calendar day, there is no refund

The tuition refund applies to all students in state-supported programs. It is the student’s responsibility to complete a withdrawal form and submit it to the registration office. The date the withdrawal is received will be used for calculating refunds.

Phlebotomy

This program is set up to meet the State of Washington Department of Health Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist Certification requirements. It also meets the needs for student so take the NHA national certification exam. The course includes HIV/AIDS training, Basic Anatomy and Physiology, medical terminology, how to avoid pre-analytical errors, and how to be successful in collecting blood samples. You will learn how to collect blood samples using all of the tools currently being used in the Laboratory industry.

You will collect blood samples from fellow students as well allowing fellow students to collect blood from you to help everyone in class to meet the objectives in the class. You will learn how to process samples to get them ready for analysis. You will learn how to deal with age specific needs of patients, customer service, special collections, and non-blood samples.

This is the prerequisite to the Advance Phlebotomy Program. Limited to 25 participants. Text is approximately $180. As of July 1, 2016 a $75 fee (not paid to Bates) will be required for all students to access the MultiCare/Franciscan Healthcare System in order to complete the mandatory HIPAA training needed to receive the Medical Assistant-Phlebotomy credential through the State of Washington.
