Net Neutrality the topic for Friday's Northwest Now series

The Federal Communications Commission is considering new rules that could change the way you use the Internet.

On Friday’s edition of Northwest Now, we’ll take a closer look at the issue of Net Neutrality and what these changes could mean for the future of the Internet.

NWN 617 Still 1We’ll also talk to some local online businesses who say they could be hurt by the new so called Internet fast lanes that the FCC’s new rules could create for bigger websites like Google and Netflix.  Plus, we’ll have a discussion with a representative from the state’s Open Data Initiative and an attorney who specializes in telecommunications law about the feasibility of the potential new rules.

“I think the FCC needs to understand that their delays on this issue are hurting the country,” said Michael Weisman, a Seattle attorney who specializes in communications law. “They’re hurting our competitiveness, we are in a global economic environment in which competitiveness in this area is crucial to us being able to compete in all areas in our economy.”
