High School Students

Are you ready to get a jump-start on your career? You can earn your high school diploma and an associate degree in a world-class career-training program at the same time, tuition free.

Interested students must meet with an advisor* before they can be admitted into Bates’ programs as a high school student.

Our advisors lead the orientation* sessions. They will present various choices for high school students; lead prospective students through a work-session on career planning tied to our offerings, and provide an overview of the required forms and student information needed in order to successfully enroll at Bates’ Technical High School.

*In-person high school orientations are canceled until further notice. Please contact a high school advisor if you’d like to get started.

Student Peer Mentor: Nathaniel Beard

Started At Bates: Fall 2019

Program: Digital Media

Why I chose Bates: Back in medieval times (early 2019), I was not doing so great in my High School classes as the traditional high school environment simply did not work for me. So I went around to a few places and eventually found success at Bates!

Why Are You a peer mentor: Simple, to help others find the same success that I did 🙂

Hobbies: I play games, make videos, and collect stuff

Student Peer Mentor: Jacob Colby

Started At Bates: Fall 2021

Program: Digital Media

Dream Job: My dream job is to become a video editor, specifically editing shorter videos like commercials and mini documentaries. I have always had a passion for video editing, and feel it is a career that I will excel in.

Why I chose Bates: After my junior year of high school, I felt like my high school was stunting my growth as a student. When I found out about Bates and the high school program, I was stoked. I chose Bates because it would allow me grow in many areas, and get a head start on my career.

Why Are You a peer mentor: I became a Peer Mentor because I feel the community that Bates has created is great and wanted to be apart of it. Everyone has been very helpful every step of the way, and I want to provide that sense of community to future and current students.

Advice for incoming students: ASK QUESTIONS!!! No question is a stupid question.

How I spend my free time: Playing video games, listing to music, going on walks throughout the city
