While Bates prepares students for careers that do not require a baccalaureate degree, you may decide that you want to take your education to the next level. Bates offers several options that may fit your unique needs, including articulation agreements with other colleges that will allow you to transfer some of your college credits earned.
Washington 45
Bates students can take general education courses called the “Washington 45” and transfer them to any other public, and most private, higher education institutions in Washington State. Bates offers the following courses:
- Communications (5 credits) – ENGL& 101
- Quantitative and Symbolic Reasoning (5 credits) – MATH& 107, MATH& 141, MATH& 142, MATH& 146, MATH& 151, MATH& 152, MATH& 153
- Social Science (10 credits in two different subject areas or disciplines) – PSYC& 100, PSYC& 200, POLS& 101, SOC& 101
- Natural Sciences (10 credits in two different subject areas or disciplines) – BIOL& 160 with lab, BIOL& 175 with lab, BIOL& 242 with lab, BIOL& 260 with lab, CHEM& 110 with lab, CHEM& 121 with lab, CHEM& 161 with lab, CS& 141, PHYS& 114 with lab, PHYS& 221 with lab, PHYS& 222 with lab, PHYS& 223 with lab
Transfer from Bates
Bates currently has agreements with several public and private colleges and universities to facilitate the transfer of credits and entry to educational options after earning a Bates credential:
- City University (multiple programs)
- Central Washington University (entry to Bachelor of Applied Science – management program)
- Centralia College (Diesel Technology)
- The Evergreen State College (multiple AAS-T degrees)
- Eastern Washington University (multiple AAS options)
- Green River College (entry into Bachelor in Applied Science in Information Technology from an AAS or AAS-T in Information Technology programs)
- Mayville State University, North Dakota (distance learning option for Early Childhood Education)
- Montana State University-Northern (Diesel Technology)
- Peninsula College (entry to the bachelor of applied science with junior standing)
- University of Phoenix (multiple)
Beyond the formalized articulation agreements, colleges have reciprocal transfer agreements and understandings relating to the transfer of courses. To determine if Bates credits are transferable to a specific college or university, contact the registrar at the receiving institution.
Associate of Applied Science-Transfer Degrees (AAS-T)
The AAS-T is built upon the technical courses required for job preparation, but also includes a college-level general education component, common in structure for all degrees.
