Creating Accessible Videos

Remember that your videos must ALWAYS have captions to meet accessibility standards and that auto-generated captions are NOT sufficient for accessibility.
To caption the videos you have created, follow these steps:

  • Send your video as an MP3 file or a link to the Online Learning Center at to request captions.
  • The Online Learning Center will then send you a file with the captions from a service they use.

The Online Learning Center will also provide a transcript of the video if you request. Ideally, you have both the well-written captions and a transcript.

For more on creating accessible videos, see the information from Colorado University or from the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges.

If you would like to use YouTube videos, check out these instructions from The National Center on Disability and Access to Education.
