Bates Technical College a STEM Jobs-approved college
Posted: December 16, 2014
TACOMA, Wash. –Victory Media, a creator of educational and career resources aimed at connecting students interested in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), announced this month that Bates Technical College has been included in their 2015 STEM JobsSM Approved Colleges list.
By 2018, Washington state will see a 24 percent increase in STEM jobs—seven points above the national average, according to www.washingtonstem.org. Bates offers programs across the STEM spectrum, making the college a leader in offering relevant STEM education through hands-on learning and increasing interest in STEM fields in our state.
“With the list of STEM JobsSM Approved Colleges, we’re able to help parents, students and guidance counselors evaluate how well education is translating into real-world jobs, and how responsive institutions are to meeting those demands,” said Daniel Nichols, President of STEM JobsSM. “We’re pleased to showcase schools like Bates Technical College as a school leading the way in this area.”
Of the more than 1,600 schools participating in the inaugural STEM JobsSM survey process, Bates was among the 123 institutions earning the designation. The surveys were scored on publicly-available data and responses to questions surrounding three success indicators: STEM job alignment, STEM job placement, and diversity in STEM programs at the college.
The 2015 STEM JobsSM Approved Colleges inaugural list is the first of its kind to rate universities, colleges, community colleges and trade schools nationwide on their responsiveness and relevance to high demand, high-growth STEM occupations. Because of this designation, Bates will be featured in the winter 2015 issue of STEM JobsSM magazine.
