Bates Assessment Committee (BAC)
Welcome to the Bates Assessment Committee (BAC) webpage. The BAC is a faculty-driven initiative dedicated to guiding and supporting faculty in the assessment of student learning and program effectiveness. Our mission is to ensure continuous improvement in educational quality and student success through systematic and comprehensive assessment practices.
Our Areas of Focus:
- Institutional Student Learning Outcomes (ISLO) Assessment:
- Conducted annually, the ISLO Assessment evaluates one of the three overarching learning outcomes that all students are expected to achieve by the end of their educational journey at Bates. Each year, we focus on assessing a different ISLO, ensuring a thorough and cyclical review of our institutional goals and student achievements.
- For more details, visit our ISLO Assessment page.
- Program Student Learning Outcomes Assessment (SLOA):
- Conducted quarterly, the SLOA focuses on specific learning outcomes within individual programs. This assessment allows us to monitor and enhance the effectiveness of our programs in delivering the intended educational experiences and outcomes.
- For more details, visit our SLOA page.
- Program Effectiveness Review (PER):
- Conducted every three years, the PER is a comprehensive review of program performance and effectiveness. This review includes an analysis of program goals, student outcomes, and overall program impact, ensuring that our programs remain relevant and effective in meeting the needs of our students and the community.
- For more details, visit our PER page.
The BAC is committed to fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence in education. We work collaboratively with faculty to develop and implement assessment strategies that are meaningful, manageable, and aligned with our institutional mission.
