Presidential Internship Program

Welcome to the inaugural year of the Presidential Internship Program! The Office of the President seeks qualified current students for this program, designed to provide students with direct professional experience and close contact with the president, vice presidents and other cabinet members.

This internship program is three-quarters long. The inaugural cohort will start Winter Quarter 2020 and end Summer Quarter 2020. Future cohorts will begin Fall Quarter and end Spring Quarter annually.

Internship requirements

  • 3.0 GPA or above
  • Submit a complete internship application (see below)

Commitment

  • Regular meetings with the president and other senior executive team members
  • Present to the Board of Trustees about your internship experience and the proposed project at the end of your program

  • A mentorship opportunity with senior administrators who will get to know interns both personally and professionally, heightening leadership potential, communication, and administrative understanding.
  • A personalized learning experience that integrates knowledge and theory learned in the classroom with practical application and skills in a professional setting. Throughout the three-quarter program, interns will receive opportunities to learn about the different components of the college that will give them first-hand experience to build their skill sets and leadership understanding.
  • An opportunity to help students gain valuable experience and make connections in professional fields they are considering for career paths. Additionally, interns will have opportunities to share their student perspectives with college leadership to make a positive impact on the rest of the student body.
  • A recommendation letter from the President upon the successful completion of the internship program.

Applications must be received by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 6, 2020.

When completing your application, please be prepared to address the following:

  1. Tell us about yourself and why you are interested in this internship opportunity.
  2. Discuss your educational and career goals.
  3. Describe your knowledge of and interest in leadership.
  4. Tell us what college-related projects you would propose as a presidential intern.

  1. Letter of Reference from at least one program faculty member
  2. Resume and cover letter
  3. Unofficial transcript
  4. Any additional items you wish to upload in support of your application (optional)

Preliminary interviews

  • Preliminary interviews with the committee will occur during the week of Jan. 13, 2020.
  • Please pre-plan to be available at some time during that week in the event you are invited to interview.

Final interviews

  • Finalist interviews with President Lin Zhou will occur during the week of Jan. 20, 2020.
